Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about how the subscription works, what's included, and how to get started.
Subscription & plans
What if I don't use all my hours this month?
Hours don't roll over, but here's the thing — most subscribers find their list fills up fast once they know someone's coming. That shelf you've been meaning to hang for two years? It's finally getting done.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. We just ask for 30 days notice so we can adjust our schedule. No penalties, no hassle.
What if I need something done between scheduled visits?
Subscribers get priority scheduling for add-on visits at $125/hr. Just text us and we'll fit you in as soon as we can.
What's the difference between a handyman subscription and calling someone per job?
With a per-job handyman, you search, request a quote, wait for a callback, schedule, and hope they show up — for every single task. With a subscription, you have a dedicated crew on your calendar every month. You keep a running list, we show up and work through it. No quoting, no searching, no uncertainty. You also get the same crew every visit, so they learn your home and work faster over time.
What happens on the first visit?
On your first visit, our crew will do a walkthrough of your home with you, review your task list, assess priorities, and get started on the highest-priority items. We also note any maintenance issues we spot that you might want to add to future visits. Most subscribers are surprised how much we get done in the first session.
Is there a contract or commitment period?
No long-term contract. Subscriptions are month-to-month. We just ask for 30 days notice if you want to cancel so we can adjust our crew schedule. Most subscribers stay because the service speaks for itself, not because a contract keeps them.
Pricing & billing
What about materials?
We bill materials separately at cost plus 15%. We handle all sourcing, pickup, and delivery so you don't have to make a hardware store run. You'll see an itemized materials invoice after each visit.
How much does a handyman subscription cost in the Lake Norman area?
Lake Norman Handyman offers two subscription tiers: Essential at $499/month for one 4-hour visit with a dedicated crew, and Priority at $899/month for two visits totaling 8 hours with top-priority scheduling. One-time service calls are available starting at $349 for the first 2 hours. Materials are billed separately at cost plus 15%.
How much does a handyman charge per hour in Charlotte NC?
Handyman hourly rates in the Charlotte/Lake Norman area typically range from $60 to $150 per hour depending on skill level, company overhead, and job complexity. Franchises tend to charge $100-$175/hr. Independent handymen charge $50-$85/hr. Lake Norman Handyman's subscription plans work out to an effective rate of $112-$125/hr with the added benefits of a dedicated crew, guaranteed scheduling, and no per-job quoting overhead.
Do you offer a free estimate or consultation?
Our subscription model eliminates the quoting process for most work. You subscribe, we show up, and we work your list. For larger standalone projects (bathroom remodels, deck builds, etc.), we provide free estimates to subscribers. Non-subscribers can book a one-time service call starting at $349.
What we do
Do you do big projects like bathroom remodels or deck builds?
We can. Larger projects get quoted separately from your subscription — your monthly plan is for the punch list, not major renovations. But because we're already in your home and know it well, we're often the best team to handle the bigger stuff too.
What can a handyman legally do in North Carolina?
In North Carolina, a handyman can perform general home repairs and improvements on projects under $40,000 (raised from $30,000 by HB 488 in October 2023) without a general contractor license. This includes carpentry, painting, drywall, fixture replacements, deck repair, pressure washing, and most home maintenance tasks. Electrical work beyond fixture replacement, plumbing beyond fixture swaps, and HVAC work require licensed specialists. We handle all handyman-appropriate work and refer to licensed tradespeople for everything else.
Scheduling & logistics
What's your service area?
We cover Lake Norman, Mooresville, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Denver, Sherrills Ford, and into greater Charlotte including Myers Park, Eastover, SouthPark, Ballantyne, Dilworth, and surrounding neighborhoods.
How do I communicate with you between visits?
Text or email — whatever you prefer. Most of our subscribers keep a running text thread with us. It's the fastest way to add things to the list or ask a quick question.
Can you work while I'm not home?
Yes, many of our subscribers give us access via smart lock code, garage code, or hidden key. We communicate before and after every visit with photos of completed work. Trust is a core part of the subscription relationship — you're not hiring a stranger each time.
Do you clean up after the work is done?
Always. We leave every work area cleaner than we found it. Drop cloths go down before paint or drywall work, and all debris is removed when we leave. If we generate waste that needs disposal beyond what fits in your trash, we'll handle haul-off and bill for the dump fee only.
Still have questions?
We're happy to talk through your specific situation. Reach out and we'll get back to you quickly.
