What's included in your plan
Smart home installation is included in all subscription plans. Most smart home device installs take 15-45 minutes each. We handle the physical installation — mounting, wiring connection, and basic device setup. For complex automation routines or whole-home system programming (e.g., Control4, Savant), we'll refer you to a smart home integrator.
What it costs
Smart home installation labor is included in your subscription. Devices can be purchased by the homeowner or sourced by us at cost plus 15%.
Questions we get about smart home
Can a handyman install a Nest thermostat?
Yes. Smart thermostat installation is one of our most common tasks. If your current thermostat has a C-wire (common wire), installation takes 20-30 minutes. If a C-wire is missing, we can install a C-wire adapter or run a new wire in many cases. Systems with complex multi-zone HVAC may need an HVAC technician.
How long does Ring doorbell installation take?
A battery-powered Ring doorbell takes 15-20 minutes to mount. A hardwired Ring (replacing an existing doorbell) takes 30-45 minutes. If there's no existing doorbell wiring, we can install a battery-powered model or discuss options for running wiring.
Do you set up the smart home apps too?
We handle the physical installation and basic device setup — connecting to your WiFi, verifying the device works in the app, and basic configuration. For advanced automation routines, scene programming, or multi-device coordination, we'll walk you through the basics but complex setups may need a smart home integrator.
Can you install security cameras?
Yes. We mount and wire security cameras (Ring, Arlo, Nest, Blink, etc.) including running cable along exterior walls and through attic spaces for hardwired models. Battery-powered cameras are quicker — typically 15-30 minutes per camera to mount and configure.
What smart home devices give the best value?
For most Lake Norman homeowners, we recommend starting with a smart thermostat (saves on energy bills), a video doorbell (security and convenience), and smart locks (no more hiding keys for housekeepers or dog walkers). These three devices cover the highest-impact use cases and cost under $500 total for the devices.
